15 year old Christian Leah Sheribu from Dapchi in North East Nigeria is being held captive by a terrorist group linked to Boko Haram – the terrorist group that abducted hundreds of Chibok girls four years ago.
110 Dapchi schoolgirls were abducted this past February; 104 Muslim schoolgirls were released; 5 schoolgirls were killed during the abduction; 1 girl remains. Christian Leah Sheribu, remains in captivity after refusing to convert to Islam, saying: “I will not deny Jesus Christ”.
In a recent 35 second audio clip released by the terrorist group holding her as part of negotiations going on behind the scene, Leah pleads with President Muhammdu Buhari to intervene and rescue her. The understanding is that the current government has made zero effort to rescue any of the Christian schoolgirls that the terrorist groups have been kidnapping.
Her mother says God is holding her and encouraging her, and knowing that people all over the world are praying for her daughter, strengthens her. David Turner, Director of the Irish charity Church in Chains, gives Wendy insight on what’s been happening.
